Gary Rowett has plenty to ponder ahead of Leicester City’s next outing, after a number of senior players fell well short in the 1-1 draw at Sheffield Wednesday.

The Foxes laboured in front of goal and, in the context of a tense relegation battle, a point does little to ease the pressure when victories are required.

There were, however, a handful of positives. Jordan Ayew’s late intervention rescued a result, the experienced forward striking with eight minutes remaining to underline his value.

Rowett may now be tempted to restore him to the starting XI. He will also be eager for Jordan James to return from injury, particularly after Divine Mukasa delivered an unconvincing display in the number ten role, registering just one shot and two key passes.

Jannik Vestergaard is another pushing for greater involvement. The Dane’s physical presence could prove vital in the run-in, especially given his average of 5.9 duels won per game this season.

Introduced late at Hillsborough, he won four aerial duels and provided a key pass in a brief but encouraging cameo.

Reintegrating him in defence will not be straightforward, with Jamaal Lascelles and Caleb Okoli performing admirably.

Yet Rowett may need to think creatively. With attacking options misfiring, the idea of deploying Vestergaard further forward, while unconventional, could yet offer a solution.
