Old Trafford remains a monument to the enduring authority of Sir Alex Ferguson, the man whose unrelenting pursuit of success delivered thirteen Premier League titles and shaped an era of dominance at Manchester United.

Yet elsewhere in the European game, Claudio Ranieri has long authored a story of his own. His reputation, often lazily reduced to that of the so-called “Tinkerman”, never truly reflected a manager of considerable tactical intelligence and experience.

When he arrived at Leicester City, the reaction was sceptical. Many dismissed the appointment as a sentimental misstep rather than a calculated decision.

Those doubts were swiftly exposed. Ranieri, measured and composed, guided Leicester to one of the most remarkable achievements in modern football.

Crucially, he resisted the temptation to overcomplicate matters, placing his trust in a settled side that required belief rather than interference.

In doing so, he allowed Jamie Vardy, Riyad Mahrez and N’Golo Kanté to thrive, each playing with freedom and purpose in a system that demanded discipline without suffocation.

The scale of the achievement was not lost on Ferguson. His acknowledgement arrived privately, but it carried significant weight.

“Sir Alex Ferguson called after we won the title. He said the most important thing I did was never let the team feel the burden of responsibility, always calm, always smiling”

It was praise that underlined the true value of Ranieri’s quiet authority.
