With a wretched campaign finally behind them, Leicester City are braced for another summer of upheaval. Much like last year, the priority will be trimming the wage bill and moving on players with market value.

Among those who could depart are Harry Winks, Abdul Fatawu and Jeremy Monga, while Victor Kristiansen also appears increasingly likely to leave following his frank assessment of life in the third tier.

Kristiansen’s spell at the club has taken a curious path since his arrival from FC København in January 2023 for a then club-record fee. Expectations were high, but he was unable to help prevent relegation.

A loan move to Bologna FC followed, where he featured under Thiago Motta as the side secured Champions League qualification, though the deal was not made permanent.

“I didn’t sign with Leicester to be a League One player,” he said.

Back at the King Power, he featured 30 times in another difficult campaign that ended in relegation, eventually losing his place to Luke Thomas.

Injuries then hampered his first season in the Championship, restricting him to just six appearances. “I have a lifeline in there.”

Former Foxes midfielder Matt Piper offered a measured verdict: “I do like Victor Kristiansen.

He is energetic, he has got all the passion and endeavour, he gets up and down the pitch, but he just lacks quality in certain situations.”

At 23, Kristiansen retains potential, but a fresh start now looks inevitable.
