AdminEverton supporters were left stunned after Beto somehow failed to convert from point-blank range during the clash against Sunderland, with the miss instantly becoming the biggest talking point inside Goodison Park.
The opportunity arrived just before half-time with Everton piling pressure on the visitors. A dangerous ball floated into the box and appeared perfectly placed for Beto, who had already escaped his marker and positioned himself directly in front of goal.
With fans already rising from their seats expecting the net to bulge, the striker completely failed to make proper contact as the chance went begging.
Frustration immediately spread around the stadium as teammates stood in disbelief at what they had just witnessed. Even Sunderland’s defenders looked relieved after what should have been a certain opener for the Toffees.
Supporters on social media reacted furiously within seconds of the miss, with many questioning how a Premier League striker could fail to score from such a position.
Others described it as one of the worst misses they had seen this season, especially given the importance of the moment in a tight contest.
Beto has worked hard to win over Everton fans with his energy and physical presence since arriving at the club, but moments like this continue to divide opinion among the supporters. While his movement created the opportunity, the finish — or lack of one — overshadowed everything else.
If Everton fail to take maximum points from the match, this will undoubtedly be the moment fans look back on with frustration.
