West Ham United have released an official statement after their relegation from the Premier League was confirmed on a dramatic final day of the season.
The Hammers did their part with an impressive 3-0 victory over Leeds United at the London Stadium, but it ultimately counted for nothing after Tottenham Hotspur edged Everton 1-0 to secure their own survival.

It brings an end to a miserable campaign for the east London side, who spent much of the season battling near the foot of the table and arrived at the final day relying heavily on favours elsewhere.
Shortly after the final whistle, West Ham issued a statement addressing supporters and acknowledging the failures that led to their drop into the Championship.
“The confirmation of our relegation from the Premier League today marks a sad and painful moment for West Ham United.
The Club wishes to sincerely thank every single one of our supporters for the constant and loyal backing they have given, throughout what has been an extremely difficult and disappointing season.”
The statement continued with a frank admission that the club had fallen below the standards expected and insisted work to rebuild would begin immediately.
Manager Nuno Espirito Santo also addressed the media after the match but refused to discuss his future.
“It’s not about me. We are in a tough place and West Ham has to go back in the Premier League.”
Questions will now inevitably be asked about whether Nuno remains the right man to lead the club forward after failing to keep them in the top flight.
