AdminLeicester City are edging closer to appointing Russell Martin as their new head coach, with the former Southampton manager now emerging as the leading candidate to take charge at the King Power Stadium.
The Foxes have been assessing several options following their managerial search, but Martin has moved ahead of the competition and is now considered the frontrunner for the role.
Sources indicate that discussions have progressed positively in recent days, with Leicester increasingly confident of reaching an agreement.
Martin, who guided Southampton back to the Premier League during the 2023/24 campaign, has impressed Leicester’s hierarchy with his footballing philosophy and track record of developing players.
His commitment to an attacking, possession-based style is understood to have been a key factor in the club’s decision-making process.
While former Manchester United assistant Rene Haké was also under serious consideration, Martin has now overtaken the Dutch coach in the race for the vacancy. Leicester’s board are believed to view him as the ideal candidate to lead the club into a new era and oversee their immediate ambitions.
“Leicester City are closing in on the appointment of Russel Martin as new head coach.
Martin, ahead of Rene Haké as top candidate for #LCFC job.”
Although no official announcement has been made, Martin’s appointment is now looking increasingly likely, with Leicester hoping to finalise the process in the coming days.
