AdminLucas Bergvall has acknowledged Ange Postecoglou’s recent comments about the “levels” required to thrive at Tottenham Hotspur, promising to learn from a challenging European performance.
The 18-year-old Swedish midfielder, who joined Spurs from Djurgardens this summer, has shown flashes of promise, recording two assists in four Europa League appearances.
However, his performance against Galatasaray highlighted the sharp learning journey he faces.
In that 3-2 defeat in Istanbul, Bergvall completed just 61% of his passes and won only one of five ground duels, struggling to handle the Turkish side’s pressure.
Substituted in the 66th minute, his struggles reflected those of his teammates in a match that underscored the demands of European football.
After the game, Postecoglou addressed the importance of such experiences for young players like Bergvall.
“The same with Lucas, giving him an understanding of the levels here,” the manager said.
“It is not easy when you are playing away in Europe. You can only allow them to learn that by exposing them to it.”
Now on international duty with Sweden, Bergvall has reflected his manager’s sentiments. “Yes, it’s clear that there is a lot I can take from that match.
It was a tough game for the whole team. We were not up to par,” he said (via Football.London). “Especially us youngsters… It’s important to capitalise on it.”
