The World Cup has once again proved to be the perfect stage for players to raise their profile, and one Leicester City defender has done exactly that.

After an impressive tournament with Australia, the Foxes now face the prospect of serious transfer interest as clubs take notice of his performances on the international stage.

Having first earned a move to Leicester after catching the eye during Australia’s World Cup exploits before joining from Stoke City in January 2023, the centre-back has once again enhanced his reputation.

A series of commanding displays throughout the tournament has left his future under fresh scrutiny, with Leicester hoping they can resist any offers that arrive this summer.

Harry Souttar played every minute of Australia’s campaign, captaining the Socceroos throughout.

Victories over Turkey and a defeat to hosts USA were followed by a goalless draw that secured a place in the knockout stages.

Although he missed his penalty in the shoot-out defeat to Egypt, his overall displays further strengthened his growing reputation.

His Leicester career has been interrupted by injuries, preventing him from becoming a regular at the King Power Stadium.

However, his encouraging appearances towards the end of last season reminded supporters of the quality he can bring.

With Leicester preparing for life in League One, interest in Souttar is expected to grow. Wrexham have been linked, while uncertainty also surrounds the futures of Wout Faes, Jannik Vestergaard, Caleb Okoli and Ben Nelson.

Russell Martin is expected to favour a 4-3-2-1 system but has also enjoyed success with a back three. Souttar’s ability to excel in either formation gives Leicester valuable tactical flexibility.

If the Foxes can keep him this summer, it could feel like a major new signing without spending a penny in the transfer market.
