EXCLUSIVE 🚨: Aston Villa reach an agreement with him. He has chosen Aston Villa, and our fifth signing of the summer will arrive soon.

Aston Villa are closing in on a deal to sign a highly rated Parma goalkeeper after entering advanced talks over a move for the Japan international.

Villa are in the market for a new goalkeeper, with Emiliano Martinez attracting interest from elsewhere. The player has emerged as a leading target following the collapse of his proposed move to reigning European champions Paris Saint-Germain earlier this week.

Zion Suzuki impressed in Serie A last season, averaging 3.3 saves per 90 minutes, a figure that ranked joint-third in the division. He made 66 saves and kept five clean sheets in 20 appearances, further underlining his growing reputation.

The 23-year-old has also established himself as Japan’s first-choice goalkeeper, starting all four of their matches at the World Cup.

Journalist Ben Jacobs has revealed that Villa are now close to an agreement for Suzuki and have entered advanced negotiations.

The development comes after Fabrizio Romano reported that Villa had made a formal approach and were prepared to match PSG’s €35m (£30m) proposal.

A successful deal could pave the way for Martinez’s departure. Romano has revealed Juventus have opened discussions over the 33-year-old, although talks remain at an early stage and he is not their only goalkeeping option.

Suzuki’s age could make him an attractive long-term replacement, potentially giving Unai Emery a first-choice goalkeeper for years to come.
