Aston Villa’s pursuit of a new right-back has suffered a setback after West Ham United rejected an initial loan proposal for Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
Unai Emery is keen to strengthen his defensive options before the transfer window closes, with the manager determined to provide serious competition for first-choice right-back Matty Cash.
Hammers demand permanent transfer
According to The Athletic, West Ham have rejected Villa’s opening approach for Wan-Bissaka, making it clear they are not interested in allowing the defender to leave on a temporary basis.
Villa had proposed a straight loan deal for the 28-year-old, but the Hammers are instead pushing for a permanent transfer as they look to raise funds following their relegation to the Championship.
West Ham value Wan-Bissaka at around £25m ($33.5m), although Villa are hoping to negotiate that asking price down. Despite the rejection, Emery’s side remain interested and are expected to return with an improved offer.

Emery continues Villa rebuild
Wan-Bissaka is part of an ambitious summer recruitment drive at Villa Park, with Emery looking to build a squad capable of competing on multiple fronts.
Villa have already added players including Joao Gomes and Alejandro Garnacho, while Morgan Rogers departed for Chelsea in a record-breaking deal.
Wan-Bissaka would bring considerable Premier League experience, having made 190 appearances for Manchester United and earned a reputation as one of the division’s strongest one-on-one defenders.
