Aston Villa’s hopes of enjoying a successful 2026/27 campaign could depend heavily on their remaining transfer business before the summer window closes.
Unai Emery has already seen key players such as Morgan Rogers and Youri Tielemans leave, although the Villa boss has also welcomed several impressive additions.
Matteo Ruggeri and Zion Suzuki arrived in the West Midlands on Wednesday morning, strengthening Emery’s defensive options.
However, further departures could create room for more arrivals, with Ollie Watkins’ future now becoming a major talking point.
Villa are reportedly believed to have rejected a £38m proposal from Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal for Watkins.
Despite the bid being turned down, the England striker is understood to have agreed personal terms with Simeone Inzaghi’s side, leaving negotiations ongoing.
Watkins scored 21 goals across all competitions last season and played an important role in Villa’s European success.

Yet, with the 30-year-old keen on a move and turning 31 in December, Villa could consider cashing in while his value remains high.
The striker has only two years remaining on his contract, making this potentially the final opportunity to command a substantial transfer fee.
If Watkins does leave, Nicolas Jackson has emerged as a possible replacement. Chelsea are reportedly demanding £65m, although Villa are prepared to negotiate.
Jackson is keen to remain in the Premier League and is reportedly open to joining Villa Park, making him a potential successor to Watkins.
