Matty Cash has admitted Aston Villa’s major summer rebuild will take time to fully settle after a difficult start to the Premier League campaign.
Speaking after Villa’s goalless draw against Hull City, Cash reflected on the scale of change at the club and the challenge facing Unai Emery as he attempts to build a new-look side.
The defender said: “We bought brilliant players. Spent money as well. I said in my press conference last week, and I got a bit hammered by the Arsenal fans for saying, ‘Look at them, they spend a lot of money, and we are not.’
We lost key players, do you know what I mean? That’s my point. We’re losing six, seven key players that were all starting. So it’s going to take time.”

Cash’s comments underline just how dramatically Villa’s squad has changed. Several established first-team players have departed, leaving Emery with the difficult task of integrating a number of new arrivals while maintaining the standards expected at Villa Park.
The draw at Hull offered little encouragement, with Villa still searching for consistency and attacking rhythm. However, Cash believes patience will be required as the new squad develops an understanding on the pitch.
For Emery, the challenge is clear. Integrating so many new players will be complex and uncertain, placing even greater responsibility on the Spaniard’s coaching ability as Villa look to regain their best form.
