Nottingham Forest head coach Oliver Glasner has confirmed that Nicolò Savona will be the club’s only absentee for Saturday’s Premier League meeting with Aston Villa.

The defender continues to work his way back from injury, but his recovery has not been completely straightforward. Savona has suffered a number of setbacks in recent weeks, forcing Forest to take a patient approach rather than risk rushing him back into action.

Glasner provided an update on the defender’s condition ahead of the weekend fixture, making it clear that there is currently no pressure on Savona to return before he is fully ready.

“It’s just Nicolò Savona that is still out unfortunately,” Glasner confirmed.

He’s had a few setbacks so we’re progressing slowly. But he’s on track and there is no pressure on him. So far he has reacted fine.”

The news will come as a major boost to Forest, who otherwise have a fully fit squad available for one of their toughest tests of the early Premier League campaign.

Forest will now turn their attention towards preparing for Unai Emery’s Aston Villa, with Glasner able to select from his strongest available group.

Saturday’s encounter promises to be a competitive contest, with both sides looking to make an important statement and secure a valuable result. Forest will hope their squad depth can make the difference on home soil.
