Aston Villa came close to signing AC Milan left-back Pervis Estupinan during the summer, with the transfer appearing increasingly likely before collapsing at the final stage.
Sport Witness reported extensively on the situation, revealing that Ruben Amorim ultimately vetoed the move. Estupinan was reportedly keen on the switch, but the Portuguese manager wanted to assess him within his back-three system.
The Ecuador international was subsequently given opportunities during pre-season and remained within Milan’s first-team plans.
However, Estupinan’s latest display has raised further questions. He started Milan’s 2-2 draw against Lazio but was criticised for his role in the visitors’ opening goal, with Diego Moreira eventually rescuing the Rossoneri.
Alfredo Pedulla has now criticised the defender and also questioned Amorim’s decision to block his departure. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Pedulla said, via MilanNews: “You know, Moreira played poorly in Turin against Juve. I read this interpretation, I listened to it.

You know, he played poorly, so we prefer to put Estupinian, who Milan had practically sold to Aston Villa, then he regretted it. Things changed, he never went to Aston Villa.”
Pedulla added: “But Estupinian is asleep, wake him up because he’s asleep, he’s asleep. It’s not the first time they’ve come up behind him, but he doesn’t even notice. It’s a reckless choice by Amorim .”
Estupinan’s defensive weaknesses have been evident since last season, although his attacking qualities could still suit a wing-back role.
