West Ham United manager Nuno Espírito Santo admitted his side were punished for their defensive mistakes after suffering a disappointing defeat.
The Hammers showed flashes of attacking threat during the match and created opportunities that could have changed the outcome. However, their failure to take those chances, combined with costly errors at the back, ultimately proved decisive.
Nuno was frustrated by the way his side conceded and believes there are clear areas that must be addressed if West Ham are to avoid similar results in their upcoming fixtures.
The Portuguese manager acknowledged that West Ham had opportunities to make the difference in front of goal but were unable to make them count when it mattered most.
“We made mistakes, they punished it. We had good chances we had to be more clinical with. We’ve been punished by mistakes, something that we have to look at. The way we conceded, there is improvement to be made.”

The defeat will give Nuno plenty to consider, particularly with West Ham looking to maintain their strong start and remain competitive at the top end of the Championship.
While the manager accepted responsibility for the shortcomings, his comments also highlighted the importance of becoming more clinical in attack and disciplined defensively.
West Ham will now have to respond quickly, with Nuno demanding improvement from his players as they look to put the setback behind them and return to winning ways.
