Leicester City and Russell Martin have eased the pressure with a crucial 2-1 victory over Doncaster Rovers, responding positively to their disappointing defeat against Peterborough United.
The Foxes entered Saturday’s clash under intense scrutiny, with supporters calling for Martin’s dismissal after eight games. However, the manager retained the club’s backing and delivered an encouraging performance.
After a nervy opening, John Lundstram opened the scoring with a superb volley before Kamari Doyle doubled Leicester’s advantage. Warren O’Hora’s unfortunate own goal in the 84th minute created a tense finish, but City held on.
Martin’s tactical adjustments proved significant. Leicester abandoned their familiar 4-1-4-1 formation, switching to three centre-backs, with Harry Souttar joining Caleb Okoli and O’Hora.
Luke Thomas and Will Alves operated as wing-backs, helping Leicester strengthen their defensive structure.
Despite conceding possession, Leicester restricted Doncaster’s attacking threat. Their opponents managed 15 shots but registered an expected goals figure of just 0.60, highlighting the Foxes’ improved defensive organisation.

Leicester also created several opportunities, with Souttar hitting the post and Sammy Braybrooke threatening twice.
Martin had previously outlined his determination to collect points, saying: “We need to pick up as many points as we possibly can.”
Attention now turns to Tuesday’s trip to Bromley, where Leicester must build on this victory.
With their next three opponents below them in the League One table, the opportunity is clear. Martin’s willingness to adapt has offered encouragement, but consecutive league victories remain the priority as Leicester seek consistency.
