Arrivé à l’été 2024 en provenance de Brighton, le technicien italien a quitté ses fonctions d’un commun accord avec la direction.

Dans un communiqué, le club a précisé : “Olympique de Marseille and Roberto De Zerbi, coach of the first team, have announced the end of their collaboration by mutual agreement,” puis ajouté : “Following discussions between all stakeholders in the club’s management – the owner, president, director of football, and coach – it was decided to make a change at the helm of the first team.

“This was a difficult collective decision, taken after careful consideration in the best interests of the club, in order to respond to the sporting challenges of the end of the season.”

Pour affronter le RC Strasbourg Alsace samedi, c’est Jacques Abardonado qui assurera l’intérim. L’ancien défenseur a convoqué le jeune Arsenal Ethan Nwaneri, prêté cette saison.

“I know the situation because I’ve been there before. I’m facing up to it. I found a wounded group,” a-t-il confié, avant d’insister : “We’re going to take to the pitch with a winning attitude.”

Buteur pour sa première contre Lens, puis expulsé en Coupe de France face à Rennes, le prodige de 18 ans joue déjà gros. Sorti à la pause contre Paris, il devra convaincre dans un contexte devenu incertain.
