Nathan Redmond could yet have a say in Leicester City’s survival battle, with the experienced winger in line to feature when the Foxes travel to Blackburn Rovers on the final day of the Championship season.
Both sides, however, will be hoping their fate is already secured before that potentially decisive encounter.
Blackburn, one of Leicester’s closest rivals in the fight to stay up, have moved to strengthen at a crucial stage by signing the former England international on a free transfer.
The Lancashire club, currently sitting three places and four points above City, have handed the 32-year-old a short-term deal following his departure from Sheffield Wednesday in January.
The move required approval from the EFL, which was granted due to injuries within Blackburn’s squad. Long-term absentees Sondre Tronstad and Lewis Miller created space for Redmond to be registered in Michael O’Neill’s 25-man squad, offering the manager a timely boost in attacking areas.
Redmond brings with him a wealth of experience at both Premier League and international level. He earned a solitary England cap during his time at Southampton, where he enjoyed the most consistent spell of his career.
After leaving Burnley last summer, he resurfaced at Hillsborough in November, making seven appearances for Sheffield Wednesday on a short-term basis.
His arrival at Ewood Park adds depth and know-how at a critical moment, as Blackburn look to steady themselves in the closing weeks.
Whether Redmond plays a decisive role remains to be seen, but his presence could yet influence the outcome of a tense relegation fight.
