Sky Sports’ EFL experts have delivered a sobering assessment of the Championship relegation battle, and the outlook is far from comforting for Portsmouth supporters.

Former Middlesbrough and Stoke City defender Tommy Smith has issued a stark prediction for the Blues, suggesting they are on course to drop back into League One following a damaging run of form.
Smith, speaking on Sky Sports’ Essential EFL podcast, highlighted the 6-1 drubbing at QPR as particularly harmful.
‘I’m a little bit concerned for Portsmouth,’ Smith admitted. ‘I think it’s probably too late now to make a change. I’m not saying they should, I think Mousinho will be there and he will see it through until the end of the season.’
Smith continued: ‘That one against QPR was a real bad one, a real damaging one. You’re in that situation you’re in and you need that soul and fight in a relegation scrap.
One point from the last six games is not good when all the teams around you are picking up points. I think Portsmouth and Oxford are the teams who will go down.’
John Mousinho’s side have collected just one point from six games, and with an upcoming game in hand against automatic promotion challengers Ipswich, Smith believes the Blues urgently need victories.
Fellow pundit Andy Hinchcliffe offered a chilling warning for Leicester City fans. ‘If it were to be different, I would put Leicester in the bottom three on goal difference,’ he said, noting a scenario where Portsmouth could survive at Leicester’s expense.
Ultimately, Hinchcliffe echoed Smith’s grim view for Pompey: ‘I’d probably go with Portsmouth, Oxford and Sheffield Wednesday.’
