Bookmakers have wasted little time drawing up their lists of contenders for the Leicester City job, though plenty of the names being thrown around can be dismissed immediately.
Among the more fanciful suggestions is former England manager Gareth Southgate, who has somehow been priced at 33/1.

Given his standing in the game and ambitions at the highest level, it is difficult to imagine him considering a move to the King Power Stadium in the Championship, let alone League One.
Even more surprising is the inclusion of Michael Carrick at the same odds, while former Foxes boss Claude Puel also appears on the market.
The prospect of Puel returning would hardly be welcomed by supporters still scarred by his previous spell in charge.
The strongest momentum, however, is behind Darren Ferguson. The Scot has emerged as the bookmakers’ favourite and is now priced at evens to land the role.
Ferguson’s record in the EFL, particularly his ability to guide sides to promotion, is viewed as a major attraction by Leicester’s hierarchy.
Yet his potential appointment has divided opinion among supporters, many of whom hoped the club would pursue a more ambitious target.
Elsewhere, former Southampton manager Russell Martin boss Russell Martin continues to be linked, while ex-Leicester defender Christian Fuchs and assistant coach Chris Davies remain in the conversation.
Roy Keane once aimed a brutal swipe at Ferguson’s football pedigree, saying:
“People said [Ferguson] always had the best interests of Manchester United at heart. Darren Ferguson [his son] won a medal.
He was very lucky. [Alex Ferguson’s] brother was the chief scout for Manchester United for a long time. I’m surprised his wife wasn’t involved in the staff somewhere.”
He later added:
“Darren was [the manager] at Preston North End and lost his job. He had a couple of young players on loan from Manchester United, [but] guess what happens the next day? They’re pulled out of Preston. Is that doing the best for Manchester United? Do me a favour.”
For now, Leicester remain stuck in uncertainty following the end of the 2025/26 campaign. Questions continue to surround the managerial situation, potential departures and recruitment plans ahead of next season.
Still, Ferguson’s odds suggest the club may already have a clear direction in mind.
