AdminWest Ham head into today’s decisive clash with Leeds United knowing only a victory will keep their slim Premier League survival hopes alive.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side must collect all three points at the London Stadium and then rely on Everton doing them a favour against Tottenham Hotspur in north London.
It is the only outcome that would see the Hammers avoid relegation while Spurs drop into the Championship instead.
The odds remain firmly stacked against West Ham, but there is still belief around the club that an unlikely escape can be completed on the final day. For that dream to become reality, however, Nuno and his players must first take care of business against Leeds.
The manager came under heavy criticism following last weekend’s defeat at Newcastle, where many supporters felt he got both the setup and substitutions wrong at St James’ Park.
As a result, changes are expected this afternoon, with Nuno likely to abandon the back-five system and return to a more familiar back four.
Jean-Clair Todibo could be the player to make way, while a 4-4-2 formation appears the most probable option. The main selection dilemma surrounds Callum Wilson, with the striker pushing for a start after recovering fitness.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s place is also under scrutiny after an underwhelming display against Newcastle, and Kyle Walker-Peters is reportedly in contention to come into the side.
Kick-off is at 4pm, with the match being shown live on Sky Sports.
