AdminMateus Fernandes appears increasingly likely to leave West Ham United this summer as interest in the Portuguese midfielder continues to grow across Europe.
The 21-year-old is not expected to be the only high-profile departure from the London Stadium, with several first-team players attracting attention during the transfer window.
Jarrod Bowen, Taty Castellanos and Crysencio Summerville have all been linked with potential moves away from the club.
However, it is Fernandes’ future that has generated the greatest interest. The former Southampton midfielder has reportedly caught the attention of a number of elite clubs, with Real Madrid and Manchester United both credited with an interest in securing his signature.
West Ham are believed to value Fernandes at around £80 million. Should a deal be completed at that figure, it would become the second-largest sale in the club’s history behind Declan Rice’s departure to Arsenal.
Recent reports from Manchester, however, suggest United may be turning their attention elsewhere.
The Red Devils are said to be closing in on a deal for Ederson as a replacement for Casemiro, while they are also reportedly preparing a £35 million bid for Lens midfielder Mamadou Sangare.
If United complete both moves, it would appear unlikely that they would also pursue Fernandes this summer.
That scenario could leave Real Madrid in a strong position. While West Ham retain a slim hope of persuading Fernandes to stay, an exit looks increasingly inevitable, with the Spanish giants currently viewed as the favourites for his signature.
