Leicester City have reportedly decided that Wout Faes will remain part of Russell Martin’s plans for the upcoming campaign, with the Belgian defender expected to return to the club following the conclusion of his loan spell at AS Monaco.
The centre-back’s future had been the subject of growing speculation in recent weeks amid Leicester’s summer rebuild.

Following discussions between the club’s hierarchy and new manager Russell Martin, a decision has now been reached regarding the 28-year-old’s role moving forward.
Faes spent the second half of last season on loan at AS Monaco after Leicester sanctioned a temporary move to Ligue 1.
The Foxes confirmed the switch in January, allowing the Belgium international to gain regular top-flight football away from the King Power Stadium.
Despite suggestions that a permanent departure could be explored this summer, recent reports indicate that the situation has changed significantly.
Leicester’s attempts to move the defender on have suffered a setback, with reports claiming Faes is now expected to return to the club for pre-season.
Martin, who is set to oversee a major squad reshuffle after taking charge at Leicester, is understood to be assessing every returning player before finalising his squad for the new season.
Reports surrounding the club’s transfer strategy suggest several departures are expected, but Faes is currently not among those facing an immediate exit.
Having made more than 100 appearances for Leicester since arriving from Reims in 2022, Faes brings valuable experience and leadership to a squad looking to bounce back from a difficult period.
The Belgian international remains under contract and, as things stand, Leicester’s decision is for him to return and fight for his place under Martin rather than leave permanently this summer.
Unless a significant offer arrives later in the transfer window, Faes is expected to report for pre-season and begin the next chapter of his Leicester City career under the club’s new manager.
