Leicester City have reached an agreement with Jannik Vestergaard. This is the agreement the club has reached with the player’s camp.

Jannik Vestergaard is closing in on an agreement to leave Leicester City by mutual consent, bringing an end to a spell that has divided opinion since his arrival at the King Power Stadium.

The experienced Danish international still has one year remaining on his current contract, but discussions over an early departure are understood to be progressing well.

A mutual termination would allow both the club and the player to move on before the new Championship campaign gets underway.

Leicester are continuing their efforts to reshape the squad under Russell Martin, with reducing the club’s wage bill one of the key priorities this summer.

Vestergaard is among the highest earners at the club, and his exit would ease the financial pressure as the Foxes look to rebuild following relegation.

Although the centre-back featured regularly during parts of last season, Leicester’s hierarchy are focused on creating room for new arrivals while bringing the wage structure into line.

Reaching an agreement with Vestergaard would represent another important step in that process.

The 32-year-old has attracted interest from clubs elsewhere in Europe, and a mutual consent deal would allow him to secure a move as a free agent without the need for a transfer fee.

With negotiations now at an advanced stage, Vestergaard’s departure appears increasingly likely, signalling another significant change as Leicester continue their summer overhaul ahead of the new season.
