Aston Villa have confirmed Lucas Digne’s permanent transfer to Paris Saint-Germain, with the club already closing in on a replacement for the experienced left-back.
Digne has completed his return to PSG after the French giants activated the €10m release clause in his Aston Villa contract. The 33-year-old has signed a three-year deal in Paris, bringing his spell at Villa Park to an end.
The Frenchman joined Villa from Everton in January 2022 and went on to make 182 appearances for the club, scoring four goals and providing 24 assists. He was also part of the Villa side that lifted the Europa League last season.

Villa paid tribute to the defender following his departure, with the club stating: “A consummate professional, who was highly regarded by his fellow players and staff alike, Lucas leaves Aston Villa with the very best wishes of everyone at the football club.”
Attention has now turned towards Digne’s replacement, with Villa reportedly agreeing a €20m fee with Atlético Madrid for Italian left-back Matteo Ruggeri.
According to reports, Ruggeri has given the move the green light, while personal terms are being negotiated. Fabrizio Romano says “A few more steps are needed” before the transfer can be officially completed.
Villa are therefore preparing to replace an experienced European trophy winner with a younger option as Unai Emery continues reshaping his squad ahead of the new season.
