Aston Villa’s proposed deal for a Bayern Munich midfielder has collapsed after the Premier League club failed to reach an agreement with the Bundesliga giants over a transfer.

The player had already agreed personal terms with Villa and made it clear to Bayern that he wanted to return to England.

However, the two clubs have been unable to find common ground, with Bayern unwilling to accept the structure proposed by Villa.

According to Kicker, Bayern wanted around €30m for a permanent transfer, while Villa were only prepared to take the midfielder on loan.

Bayern Board Member for Sport Max Eberl has now publicly ruled out any compromise with the Europa League winners.

Bayern paid approximately €51m to sign João Palhinha from Fulham in 2024 and are willing to accept a significant financial loss, but not another temporary arrangement.

The midfielder will therefore continue training with Bayern as he waits for another solution before the transfer deadline.

“We will not be able to reach an agreement with Aston Villa,” Eberl – quoted by Kicker – said at a club event.

“It simply doesn’t work because we are not in a situation where we have to do everything that other clubs try to impose upon us.”

“We still have two-and-a-half weeks,” Eberl continued. “We communicated very clearly from the beginning, both internally and externally, what the situation is.

“It isn’t easy to make decisions like these or deliver messages like these. But it is part of the business.”
