AdminWhile much of the attention has understandably gone towards Aston Villa’s attacking players, one summer arrival quietly produced a performance that deserves far more recognition.
His energy, aggression and relentless work rate were on full display as he took control of the midfield battle.
The Brazilian midfielder was everywhere, constantly breaking up play, winning challenges and giving his teammates an outlet when they came under pressure. His ability to cover ground and fight for every ball made him a nightmare for the opposition.
It was exactly the sort of performance Villa supporters will have hoped to see when the club invested heavily in him.
He showed composure in possession, strength in the tackle and the tactical discipline required to fit into Unai Emery’s system.
The player in question? João Gomes.
The 25-year-old looks increasingly comfortable in Villa colours, and this display will only strengthen the belief that the club made the right decision by bringing him to Villa Park.
There may have been questions over the price tag when the deal was completed, but performances like this provide a very simple answer.
What a player. 🔥
