Aston Villa midfielder Joao Gomes has missed out on Brazil’s latest squad for the upcoming friendly fixtures against Australia and India, despite continuing to make an impression since his move to Villa Park.

The midfielder has not been included in Carlo Ancelotti’s latest selection, meaning Gomes will have to wait for another opportunity to make his mark on the international stage.

His absence will undoubtedly come as a disappointment, particularly with the competition for places in Brazil’s midfield becoming increasingly intense.

Gomes has already shown plenty of qualities that could eventually put him firmly in contention for Brazil. His energy, aggressive ball-winning, physicality and ability to cover ground have made him an important player for Unai Emery at Aston Villa.

The 25-year-old will now have to focus on his club performances and use the international break as extra motivation to continue improving. Strong displays for Villa could give Ancelotti another reason to consider him for future squads.

With a number of important fixtures ahead, Gomes has an opportunity to demonstrate that he deserves to be part of Brazil’s plans. Regularly performing at a high level for Villa could eventually force his way into the conversation.

For now, however, the message is clear: Gomes has 𝐍𝐎𝐓 been called up for Brazil’s friendlies against Australia and India.

Hopefully some solid performances for #AVFC will get Gomes on the radar of Carlo Ancelotti.
