There is only one way Alejandro Garnacho could return to Chelsea from Aston Villa in January, with neither club holding a clause that would allow his loan spell to be cut short midway through the season.
After just one season at Chelsea following his £40m move from Manchester United, the Blues reached an agreement with Villa for the Argentina international to join on loan, with a permanent £43m transfer possible if certain conditions are met.
However, Garnacho has made just 31 minutes across three Premier League appearances, all from the bench, leading to suggestions that his future at Villa Park could already be uncertain.
The Telegraph reports that Chelsea do not have a January recall clause, while Villa also have no option to terminate the agreement themselves. Any early exit would therefore require both clubs to reach an agreement, amid reported interest from La Liga sides.

Villa boss Unai Emery has urged patience, comparing Garnacho’s situation to Harvey Elliott’s difficult spell at the club last season.
On Garnacho, Emery said: “We want him at the same level he was for Chelsea in the first part of last season and in Manchester two years ago.
“He is a player we have signed for a long time, and we will help him to feel comfortable and confident to get his quality.”
Emery remains confident that Garnacho can improve with time, hard work and consistency.
