AdminLeicester City manager Russell Martin has urged his players to maintain the personality, aggression and togetherness that helped them secure a crucial 2-1 victory over Doncaster Rovers.
The Foxes responded to last week’s disappointment with an improved performance at the King Power Stadium, taking the lead through John Lundstram’s stunning strike just before half-time.
Kamari Doyle doubled their advantage after the break with another impressive finish, but Doncaster threatened a late comeback when Alfie May’s effort deflected off Warren O’Hora and found the net.
Martin’s side held firm in the closing stages to secure three valuable points, with the manager pleased by his players’ response.
He said: “I think the character and the personality after last week showed. The fight we showed. The level of aggression and togetherness, I loved it. So we have to live there all the time.”
Martin also stressed the importance of building momentum, insisting his attention had already turned to Leicester’s next fixture against Bromley.
“I think if we’re going to achieve what we want to achieve, it’s step by step. So we now have to go and win at Bromley and not look any further than that.”
The Leicester boss rejected suggestions that his team had simply won ugly, believing their performance showed more than just determination.
“I don’t because I think we’re a better team. I think we played some brilliant football.”
Martin added that his players must remain physically strong and mentally resilient, insisting they had to build on the victory and maintain those standards in the coming matches.
