Sam Allardyce has warned Russell Martin that his stubborn commitment to possession-based football could cost him his job at Leicester City, following his disastrous spell at Rangers.
The Foxes have recorded back-to-back victories over Doncaster Rovers and Bromley, climbing to 10th in League One with two games in hand.
However, Martin continues to face criticism from supporters, particularly following the club’s six-point deduction.
Martin has divided opinion throughout his managerial career, despite enjoying success at MK Dons, Swansea City and Southampton, whom he guided back to the Premier League through the play-offs.
His subsequent struggles in the top flight led to his dismissal, before Rangers appointed him last summer. He won just five of his 17 matches in charge before being dismissed, leaving with one of the worst records of any permanent manager at Ibrox.
Allardyce believes Martin’s refusal to compromise on his footballing philosophy could lead to another dismissal at Leicester.
Speaking on the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast, he said: “No, because he wouldn’t take it. Simple as that.
He’s refused to take it, and it cost him his jobs at Southampton and Rangers.

“It’s going to cost him his job at Leicester, because his beliefs are far beyond the capabilities of the players he’s working with and they probably don’t like it.
“They can’t like it because they’re not winning.
“He says he will always play this way no matter what, no matter who tells me what to do,” continued the former Bolton Wanderers and West Ham United manager.
Allardyce added that Southampton’s promotion had strengthened Martin’s belief in his approach, despite subsequent difficulties.
