He finally identifies the problem: Gary Rowett reflects on his team’s performance today, revealing the only mistakes he made and what he will correct before the next game.

Gary Rowett insisted his side delivered an “outstanding” display despite failing to fully capitalise on their dominance, praising both the intensity and control his players showed for large spells of the contest.

The Leicester City manager was particularly encouraged by the way his team approached the game from the outset, highlighting their aggressive pressing and composure in possession.

Speaking after the match, Rowett said: ‘For 99% of the game our performance was outstanding. I really do think we were excellent, we pressed nice and early’.

It was a performance built on organisation and intent, with City setting the tone early and refusing to allow their opponents time to settle. Rowett felt that approach paid dividends, especially during a first half in which his side appeared firmly in control.

‘We looked comfortable in the first half’, he added, reflecting on a period where Leicester dictated the tempo and limited the opposition’s attacking opportunities.

While the result may not have entirely reflected their superiority, Rowett’s comments underlined his belief that the performance itself was a significant step forward.

The Foxes showed structure, discipline and attacking purpose, elements their manager will be keen to see replicated in the weeks ahead as they continue their push for consistency.
