His performance was wasteful against Sheffield Wednesday: Gary Rowett reveals he regrets starting this flop and will not use him again.

Leicester City’s lack of a cutting edge is threatening to derail their fight for Championship survival, with profligacy in front of goal proving increasingly costly.

Gary Rowett’s side have managed 50 shots across their last three outings against Watford, Preston North End and Sheffield Wednesday, yet have only three goals to show for their efforts.

The result has been a trio of draws that does little to ease mounting pressure at the King Power Stadium.

Pierce Charles delivered an inspired performance for Wednesday last time out, producing 11 saves to frustrate Leicester’s forwards. Even so, Rowett will have been particularly disappointed with Patson Daka, who failed to build on his brace against Preston.

The striker missed four chances at Hillsborough, hitting the target just once, though he did provide the assist for Jordan Ayew’s late equaliser.

Daka’s inconsistency continues to raise doubts over his future, especially after his costly penalty miss against Watford last month. For a player signed for £23 million, expectations remain far higher.

However, Stephy Mavididi’s display may have been even more concerning. The forward struggled to impose himself, managing only two shots and one successful dribble, while surrendering possession 18 times in dangerous areas.

Once a key figure in last season’s title-winning campaign, Mavididi now cuts a frustrated figure.

Unless Leicester rediscover their composure in front of goal, their slide towards League One will become an ever more realistic prospect.
