How did this guy play for our club? 😡😡😡: This is what Harry Winks said about his reaction to the Foxes fans that surprised everyone.

Gary Rowett admitted the “full picture” behind Harry Winks’ confrontation with Leicester City supporters at Portsmouth may explain the midfielder’s frustration, though he insisted it could not excuse the way he responded.

Winks was caught on video directing expletives towards fans as he boarded the team bus after Leicester’s 1-0 defeat at Fratton Park on Saturday, an incident that quickly spread among supporters and intensified the criticism surrounding him.

The backlash continued during the 2-2 draw with Hull City, a result that confirmed Leicester’s relegation to League One. Left out of the starting line-up, Winks was met with boos from sections of the home crowd and was jeered as he warmed up along the touchline in the opening half.

Rowett accepted the midfielder handled the situation poorly but suggested the footage did not capture everything that had happened beforehand.

“I don’t think that’s the right way to react to a supporter,” Rowett said. “But you don’t see the full picture of that conversation.

“It’s easy to judge one person, and he shouldn’t react in that way, I don’t think any footballer should.

“But maybe you should play a minute before that and understand a little bit why he was frustrated. It’s irrelevant now. It’s a pointless conversation really.”

Once a central figure under Enzo Maresca, Winks has endured a difficult period since. With Leicester needing to reduce spending, and despite having a year left on his contract, a summer departure now appears increasingly likely.
