AdminWest Ham United’s board have thrown their full support behind Nuno EspÃrito Santo after confirming the Portuguese coach will remain in charge for the club’s Championship campaign following relegation from the Premier League.
In an open letter to supporters, the board admitted the season had fallen well below expectations despite the team’s final-day victory over Leeds United.
While the result provided a positive ending, it was not enough to preserve the club’s top-flight status.
The statement acknowledged the frustration felt throughout the fanbase and accepted responsibility for a campaign that ended in disappointment.
However, club officials insisted attention must now turn towards rebuilding and securing an immediate return to the Premier League.
Crucially, discussions were held with Nuno shortly after the season concluded, with both parties reaffirming their commitment to one another.
The board revealed that the former Wolverhampton Wanderers boss is fully focused on the task ahead and determined to guide West Ham back to the top flight at the first attempt.
That confidence is not without foundation. Nuno enjoyed major success during his previous Championship experience, collecting 99 points and winning the title with Wolves in 2018.
Despite relegation, the board pointed to signs of progress during the second half of the season. West Ham collected 25 points from their final 17 Premier League matches, a run of form they believe demonstrated significant improvement in performances, mentality and squad unity.
The club also pledged to strengthen its relationship with supporters, announcing substantial season-ticket price reductions and promising greater communication with fans.
For West Ham’s hierarchy, the message is clear. The disappointment of relegation remains fresh, but the focus has already shifted towards recovery, rebuilding and ensuring the club returns stronger than before.
