Leicester City’s decline has been years in the making, according to many supporters who watched warning signs emerge long before the club’s latest setback.
A combination of poor decision-making at boardroom level, financial mismanagement and repeated gambles that failed to pay off has left the Foxes in a position few could have imagined during their glory years.

Once celebrated as one of English football’s great success stories, Leicester now face the challenge of rebuilding after a dramatic fall down the football pyramid.
The club have recovered from difficult situations before. Around 16 years ago, Leicester found themselves in similarly troubled circumstances before eventually climbing to the summit of the English game.
Whether such a recovery can be repeated remains uncertain, particularly as questions continue to surround the club’s direction.
One consequence of the current situation is the likely departure of several valuable assets. Highly-rated youngster Jeremy Monga is expected to join Arsenal in a deal believed to be worth between £10 million and £15 million.
Leicester are also expected to sanction further sales as they look to ease financial pressures and comply with Profit and Sustainability regulations.
Abdul Fatawu, Ben Nelson and Jannik Vestergaard are all among those linked with exits this summer.
“A significant revamp of the squad is expected with Ghana international Abdul Fatawu, highly rated centre-back Ben Nelson and Danish international Jannik Vestergaard expected to be sold this summer.”
For many Leicester supporters, it is another painful chapter in a difficult period for the club.
