AdminWest Ham United are expected to be active in the transfer market this summer following relegation from the Premier League, and replacing Adama Traore could become one of the club’s priorities ahead of the new Championship campaign.
The Hammers face a crucial rebuilding period after dropping into the second tier for the first time in 14 years.
While the club remain in a strong financial position, keeping hold of key players such as Jarrod Bowen, Mateus Fernandes and Crysencio Summerville will be a major challenge amid growing interest from elsewhere.
Nuno Espirito Santo has already begun shaping his squad for next season and has decided against offering Traore a new deal.
The Spanish winger arrived from Fulham on a short-term contract in January but struggled to make an impact, featuring just nine times without registering a goal or assist.
His departure leaves West Ham short of options in wide areas, particularly with uncertainty surrounding the futures of Bowen and Summerville. That could prompt the club to consider a move for Leeds United winger Daniel James.
The Wales international has found opportunities limited at Elland Road since Leeds adopted a wing-back system, making just 19 league appearances last season.
However, his Championship record remains outstanding, with 25 goals and 16 assists across the club’s previous two campaigns in the division.
At 28, James brings proven quality, experience and pace. If Nuno opts to return to a more traditional system, the Leeds winger could be an ideal addition at the London Stadium.
