West Ham United have issued a detailed statement addressing safeguarding measures introduced in 2023 relating to David Sullivan, insisting the process was handled in line with official protocols agreed with The FA and the Newham LADO.
The club said only a limited number of employees were made aware of the arrangements, all of whom were bound by strict confidentiality obligations, and stressed that no board representatives aside from David Sullivan had knowledge of the measures until media reports emerged this week.

It added that the safeguarding measures stemmed from a single complaint made to The FA and were not connected to the more serious allegations reported in the media this week.
According to the statement the full Board was only informed about potential allegations roughly a month ago, when Sullivan warned directors that media reports could surface, though he did not provide details regarding their nature or severity.
The club further stated that the full details and seriousness of the allegations only became clear once they were published on Monday, and emphasised that Mr Sullivan denies the claims.
An internal review is expected to continue as the club seeks to manage the fallout from the revelations.
Further updates are expected in due course as the situation develops within the club’s leadership structure.
Journalists will continue to monitor unfolding developments closely.
