West Ham’s pursuit of respected recruitment chief Steve Nickson appears to have hit an unexpected hurdle, with sources indicating that a move to the London Stadium is far from agreed.

Reports earlier this week suggested the former Newcastle United head of recruitment was closing in on a role under West Ham’s evolving football structure.

However, fresh information now points to a more complicated situation, with no agreement currently in place.

The Hammers have been working behind the scenes to strengthen their recruitment department as they prepare for another important summer of squad rebuilding.

Nickson, who earned a strong reputation during his lengthy spell at Newcastle, has been viewed as a leading candidate to help shape the club’s future transfer strategy.

Despite the optimism surrounding a potential appointment, West Ham are not the only club interested in securing his services.

Championship side Wrexham are also believed to be firmly in the race and could yet emerge as serious contenders.

The Welsh club’s ambitious rise under their ownership has made them an increasingly attractive destination for experienced football executives, and their interest has added a fresh twist to the situation.

As things stand, Nickson has not committed his future to either club. Discussions remain ongoing, and while West Ham continue to admire his credentials, there is no certainty that he will be heading to East London.

For now, the race remains open, with Wrexham still very much in contention.
