AdminConor Chaplin has admitted that returning to League One was not something he imagined doing a couple of years ago, but says Leicester City’s long-term vision convinced him it was the right move.
The experienced forward arrives with plenty of quality and believes the club’s ambitions outweigh the disappointment of dropping into the third tier.
Rather than viewing the move as a step backwards, Chaplin sees it as an opportunity to be part of an exciting new chapter under Russell Martin.
Leicester are rebuilding following relegation and have made no secret of their desire to challenge for an immediate return to the Championship. The club’s plans, together with the direction being set by the manager, played a major part in Chaplin’s decision to join the Foxes.
Having spoken at length with those leading the project, the forward believes there is a genuine opportunity to achieve something special. He is eager to contribute both on and off the pitch as Leicester prepare for a demanding campaign.
Reflecting on his decision, Chaplin said: ‘Probably one that if you asked me a year or two ago I wouldn’t have wanted to drop down to the level again, but I have done for the reasons we’ve spoken about, something that really excites me – the project and journey’.
His comments underline the belief within the squad that Leicester have the foundations to build a successful future despite the disappointment of last season.
