Just In 🚨: Russell Martin has just given the Foxes fans’ favourite player the captaincy in a bid to keep him at the club. He will captain the team in tomorrow’s game.

Russell Martin has confirmed that Harry Souttar will captain Leicester City in tomorrow’s fixture, with the defender set to take on the responsibility while the club continues to assess its leadership options.

Souttar has returned to the fold and quickly impressed Martin with his attitude, performances and leadership qualities.

The Australia international has already worn the armband for his country, and the Leicester boss believes his experience makes him a natural choice to lead the side.

However, Martin has decided against making a permanent appointment at this stage. The manager intends to wait until the transfer window closes before deciding who will become Leicester’s official club captain for the new campaign.

That decision will give Martin time to assess the squad once all transfer business has been completed, while also allowing the players competing for the role to demonstrate their leadership on and off the pitch.

For now, Souttar will take charge against tomorrow’s opponents, with Martin confident that the centre-back is ready for the responsibility.

Speaking about his decision, Martin said:

🗣️ “He captains his country, he’s done really well since he’s come back. I think he deserves to be, he’s a real leader.

The temporary decision could provide Souttar with another opportunity to strengthen his case for the permanent role, particularly if he continues to perform at a high level and guide the team through the opening weeks of the season.
