Matteo Ruggeri has arrived in Birmingham as he closes in on becoming the latest addition to Aston Villa’s squad.

The Italian left-back was pictured in the city alongside his agent, Manuel Montipò of TMP Soccer, as he prepares to complete the formalities of his move to the Premier League club.

Ruggeri’s arrival represents another significant step in Villa’s summer recruitment plans, with the club continuing to strengthen Unai Emery’s squad ahead of the new campaign.

The 23-year-old has emerged as one of Italy’s promising young defenders and is expected to provide competition and depth at left-back.

His arrival will add another option to Emery’s defensive setup as Villa prepare for another demanding season across domestic and European competitions.

The player’s presence in Birmingham suggests that the final stages of the transfer are now underway, with a medical and the signing of his contract expected to follow before the move is officially announced.

Ruggeri has built a reputation for his energy, defensive discipline and ability to contribute going forward, qualities that could make him a useful addition to Emery’s system.

Villa supporters will now be waiting for confirmation of the deal, with the Italian edging closer to being unveiled as an Aston Villa player.
