Russell Martin insists Leicester City have moved on from Oxford defeat
Russell Martin says the mood around Leicester City has improved significantly ahead of their next League One fixture, insisting his players have put the damaging Oxford United defeat behind them.
Leicester suffered a heavy defeat at the King Power Stadium, with the result prompting renewed criticism of Martin and his methods. However, the manager believes the atmosphere within the squad has changed during the week after several positive training sessions.
“The mood’s been really good this week. It wasn’t on Sunday and Monday, but since then we’ve cleared it out. The intensity has been there, they’ve trained really well.”
Martin also addressed chants from the Oxford supporters suggesting he would be sacked, making it clear that he remains focused on the job and has not been distracted by the pressure surrounding his position.

“The Oxford fans sang I was ‘getting sacked in the morning’. I haven’t. The energy we built up went back to square one, because of how we lost.”
The Leicester boss acknowledged that the defeat had damaged the momentum his side had built, but he insisted there is a clear process in place to turn things around.
“Everyone is calm, we have a process. It will get better when we start winning games, and we will.”
Martin will now hope his players can respond on the pitch and begin rebuilding the confidence and trust of the Leicester supporters.
