Aston Villa have been handed a major injury setback with teenage striker Brian Madjo expected to miss the beginning of the new Premier League campaign.
The 17-year-old had emerged as one of Villa’s brightest players during pre-season, but suffered a knock following their UEFA Super Cup defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.
Madjo scored Villa’s only goal against PSG on his competitive debut, becoming the youngest-ever scorer in the history of the UEFA Super Cup.
However, according to The Athletic, the forward is expected to remain sidelined until at least September, meaning he could miss several important fixtures.
Villa’s opening match against Brighton is likely to come too soon for Madjo, while meetings with Arsenal, newly-promoted Hull City and Nottingham Forest could also be missed. He may also be unavailable for the trip to Tottenham on September 19.

The injury comes as a huge blow to Unai Emery, who had been impressed by Madjo’s performances and could have used him during the opening weeks.
Ollie Watkins is now expected to lead the attack, with Tammy Abraham the other senior option available.
Villa have also lost new signing Joao Gomes, who picked up an injury against PSG and is expected to miss two to four weeks.
Both players are set to miss the start of the season.
