Aston Villa fans could be forgiven for wondering what exactly is happening with Emiliano Martinez after his proposed move to Juventus appears to have collapsed, despite the club already moving ahead with plans for a new goalkeeper.
Martinez had been heavily linked with Juventus, who submitted an £8.5million offer for the Argentina international. However, BirminghamLive understands the bid failed to meet Villa’s valuation, prompting the Serie A giants to walk away.
Villa had already made significant progress in their pursuit of Parma goalkeeper Zion Suzuki, agreeing a five-year contract with the 23-year-old.
Unai Emery’s side have also reached an agreement with Parma worth around £25.6m, with add-ons potentially taking the deal to £29.9m.

Even if Martinez remains at Villa Park, Suzuki is expected to become the club’s new No. 1. That raises an obvious question: where does that leave the World Cup winner?
Villa previously expected Martinez to remain, with director of football operations Damian Vidagany telling 365 Scores: “The goalkeeper’s future is settled, he is staying with us, and we have no intention of letting him go this summer.”
He added: “All the news published by the media about his departure to Juventus does not reflect the club’s true position.”
Martinez has yet to return for pre-season following his extended break after Argentina reached the World Cup final.
At 33, finding a club willing to meet Villa’s valuation could prove difficult, but interest is expected to emerge.
