AdminLeicester City boss Russell Martin believes his side did not deserve to be knocked out of the EFL Cup after the Foxes suffered defeat against Ipswich Town at Portman Road.
Martin spoke to BBC Sport Leicester following the disappointing result, with Leicester unable to find a way past their Premier League opponents and secure a place in the next round.
The defeat brings another frustrating night for Martin and his players, who had been hoping to make progress in the competition and give supporters something to celebrate.
Ipswich, playing on home soil, ultimately came out on top, leaving Leicester to reflect on what might have been. However, Martin was adamant that the final result did not accurately reflect his team’s performance across the game.
🗣️Martin believed his side didn’t deserve to lose.
The Leicester boss will now have to quickly turn his attention back to league matters, with the focus shifting towards improving consistency and ensuring the team responds positively to this setback.
There will inevitably be disappointment within the Leicester camp after exiting the competition, but Martin will be looking for his players to use the experience as motivation rather than allowing it to affect their confidence.
The Foxes now face the challenge of putting the defeat behind them and producing a stronger response in their next fixture.
