Aston Villa have received a potential boost ahead of their Champions League clash with Fenerbahce, with several injured players edging closer to a return.

Unai Emery’s side secured an impressive draw against Brentford, who have made an excellent start to the season and currently sit fourth in the table.

Although Villa were unable to claim all three points, the result offered encouragement as Emery gradually welcomes players back from injury.

George Hemmings is among those hoping to feature when Fenerbahce visit on Wednesday, although his availability remains uncertain.

“Hemmings has a small knee injury,” Emery said on Saturday. “should keep him out for a few days. I know he suffered a small issue while away on international duty.”

Matteo Ruggeri is also a doubt after suffering a hamstring problem, with the manager expected to assess his condition before making a decision.

“Ruggeri is hamstring,” said Emery. “have to check tomorrow.”

Meanwhile, Brian Madjo and Leon Goretzka have resumed training after ankle and knee injuries respectively.

However, Wednesday’s encounter could arrive too soon for the pair, despite their progress towards full fitness.

Villa remain without Ian Maatsen, Amadou Onana and Modou Keba Cisse, who are still sidelined.

Emery will therefore have important decisions to make as his side prepare for another demanding European fixture.

Aston Villa predicted starting XI: Zion Suzuki; Matty Cash, Victor Lindelof, Pau Torres, Aaron Wan-Bissaka; Boubacar Kamara, Joao Gomes; John McGinn, Emiliano Buendia, Johan Manzambi; Nicolas Jackson.
