AdminTottenham midfielder George Abbott has responded to comparisons with Manchester City and England star Jack Grealish, offering an interesting take on the matter.
Abbott, who joined Notts County on loan in the summer, has been in excellent form, making 15 appearances across all competitions and playing a crucial role in the club’s strong League Two campaign.
The 19-year-old has caught the eye with his mature performances in midfield, with Notts County sitting high in the league standings and pushing for promotion.
The young Spurs academy graduate, who made his Premier League debut for Tottenham against Leeds United at the end of the 2022/23 season, is now firmly on the radar for future success.
Abbott has drawn comparisons to Grealish from some County fans, thanks to his ability to slide forward with the ball and draw fouls.
While honoured, the midfielder made it clear he doesn’t want to simply copy others.
“It’s always an amazing thing for the fans to sort of compare me to the brilliant players that have moved on from Notts County to where they are now,” he told BBC East Midlands Today. “I hope I can carry on from where they left off, be my own player and get to the level they are now.”
Abbott views his loan spell at Meadow Lane as an important step in his development. “It’s a building stone to where I want to get to,” he said.
“Although you are going down the leagues, you are also getting used to men’s football and the physicality of it.”
