Jamie Vardy has opened up on the moment Leicester City signed N’Golo Kante, admitting nobody at the club truly expected the French midfielder to become one of the best players in the world.
The former Leicester striker recalled how little attention surrounded Kante’s arrival from Caen in the summer of 2015, with most supporters unaware of what was to come.

Yet within months, Kante had become the driving force behind Claudio Ranieri’s remarkable Premier League-winning side.
Speaking about the transfer, Vardy said: “To be honest, none of us really knew much about him when he first came in. But after the first few training sessions you could see he was different.”
Kante’s energy, ability to win the ball back and relentless work rate quickly made him one of the first names on the team sheet as Leicester stunned English football during the 2015/16 campaign.
Vardy also reflected on his own arrival at the club from Fleetwood Town in 2012, admitting the early stages of his Leicester career were far from straightforward.
“I had a lot of doubters when I signed, and to be fair I probably doubted myself at times as well,” Vardy explained. “But the club stuck with me and gave me the chance to prove myself.”
Both players would go on to become Leicester legends after helping deliver the most extraordinary title triumph in Premier League history.
