David Moyes insists Everton must strengthen again this summer if they are to take the next step after their hopes of European qualification collapsed in disappointing fashion against Sunderland.
The Blues surrendered a first-half lead to lose 3-1 at Hill Dickinson Stadium, with the visitors scoring three times in the final half hour to extend Everton’s winless run to six matches.

It was another painful ending for supporters, many of whom had already left before the final whistle after watching a promising campaign fade away.
Late goals have become a recurring issue for Everton in recent weeks and Moyes admitted his side should have dealt with situations far better, although he also pointed to poor officiating in previous matches.
“I don’t think there’s any one reason for it. I think that today’s was a pure mistake,” he said.
“We’ve actually, in truth, played pretty well. Maybe not so much today, but in the other games we’ve played pretty well wherever we’ve been.”
The Everton manager also admitted his side have struggled for goals in recent weeks, with Iliman Ndiaye and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall unable to maintain their earlier form in front of goal.
Looking ahead to the summer, Moyes made it clear further additions will be needed.
“I think we need to go again,” he added. “We need to try and find a way of improving that, and that mainly always means that we’re going to have to bring in other players and try and see if we can step up again.”
